Healthy snack ideas

Below are some great snack ideas that you can get started with.  These are just a few examples of foods that I will be teaching you how to create that is simple, tastey and inexpensive that you will not want to go back to processed packaged snacks. I will also show you have to make great breakfast foods, lunches and dinners. 

1 Sweet potato fries

Sweet potato fries are a much healthier snack than fast food fries  or the fries that you buy in the freezer section in the grocery store.  They are cheap to make and can be taken in containers with you anywhere.

 

Instuctions:

 

1. Pre - heat oven to 400

 

2. Wash sweet potatoes and cut the lengh        wise and spread them out on a cookie            sheet lightly oiled with coconut oil

 

3  season them with your favorite seasoning      such as: salt pepper, garlic powder, onion      powder, dill, cumin and nutritional yeast.

 

Put them in the oven on 450 degrees for 30 minutes or until they are crispy turning them over once half way.

These little crunchy snacks are great to take on the go or to have at work. Throw some in a zip lock bag and toss it into your purse.  Helps to aviod grabbing an unhealthy snack.

 

Ingredients:

 

3 cans chick peas rinsed well (you can use dry if               you want to take the time to soak them)

1 cup of cashews soaked for about an hour

2 Tbls coconut oil melted

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp chopped garlic

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cayenne for a kick

handful of fresh parsley chopped 

 

Directions:

 

Pre heat oven at 400.  after you open and rinse chick peas, let them dry out for a bit no a towel. Then melt the coconut oil and add all the other ingredients to a container that has a lid or a zip lock bag.  Add the chick peas and shake them so they are all coated evenly. lay them out evenly onto a cookie sheet with parchment paper, dont include cashews yet.  Cook for about 40 minutes. About half way take out of the oven and add the cashews and stir them up a bit. 

 

Be creative with your chicks, you can add all kinds of herbs and spicey to make differnent variations

 

3  Cripsy cheesy kale chips

These little green treats are very tastey and fun to make. These can also be taken to work with you or as a quick snack while on the road.  They are inexpensive and quick to make. 

 

Ingredients:

 

1 bunch of curly kale rinsed and dryed out on a towel

1 - 2 tbsp of melted coconut oil depending how much leaves you have

2 tbsp of nutritional yeast. 

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

pinch of salt and pepper

 

Directions:

 

Pre heat oven to 300 degrees. Mix the oil and spices in a bowl then add the kale.  With your hands, gently massage all the pieces of kale coating every one. Then spread them out on a cookie sheet with foil or parchment paper and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. Very important to check them after about 10 to 15 minutes. Take out any that are already crispy and rotate the others that need more time. Keep an eye on them until they are done.

Ingredients:

 

1/2 cup or a little more of almonds

1 Tsp vanilla extract 

Dash of sea salt and chia seeds 

1/3 cup pre-soaked dates

1 cup shredded coconut

1/4 cup ground flax 

1 Tbsp agave nectar (or honey or another natural sweetener)

Juice of 1 lemon

Zest of 1 lemon

1 ½ tsp of Sunwarior activated barley or maca 

 

Directions:

 

1. Place almonds, vanilla, salt, agave, lemon juice and flax into your food processor and blend until smooth

2. Place the rest of the ingredients into your food processor with blended ingredients and pulse until mixed

3. Using your hands, form into little round balls or simply press them into a square dish to make bars

4. Store in a sealed-tight container in the refrigerator or freeze them for whenever you need them.
